MaestroShield programming

MaestroShield programming for Smart Motor and Hybrid controls.

This guide separates two incompatible MaestroShield families: electronic-limit Smart Motors programmed from a handheld remote, and LED/Hybrid Series motors that pair to the EL03-11HH06L-style control but use mechanical upper and lower limit adjusters.

Choose your system

Match the motor, limit type, and remote before using a sequence.

Smart Motor and Hybrid commands are not interchangeable. Use the physical controls and model information—not the MaestroShield name alone—to choose the correct section.

Read this before changing MaestroShield programming

Stop if the screen binds, runs crooked, leaves its tracks, overtravels, or if the motor and control family are unclear. Unset electronic limits or incorrect mechanical-limit adjustments can let the curtain travel into the hood or beyond the safe lower position.

A full programming deletion removes stored limits and control assignments. The screen can overtravel afterward, so do not reset the motor unless you can immediately rebuild and supervise the entire setup. The Smart Motor sequences on this page are for the MaestroShield 3, 6, 8, 20, and 50 Nm handheld-remote generation documented in the linked programming PDF. Newer MS/MSD/MSBD controls, mechanical-limit motors, Hybrid/LED systems, wall receivers, and wall-mount remotes must not use those Smart Motor sequences. The Hybrid sequences are only for the LED/Hybrid Series built-in receiver with mechanical limits and the Forest Diamond-style EL03-11HH06L six-channel remote shown in the 2015 manual. Do not apply them to Smart Motors or newer MS, MSD, or MSBD controls.

Smart Motor essentials

Use the electronic-limit workflows only for the identified Smart Motor family.

Identify Smart Motor first

Smart Motors store electronic limits from the handheld remote. Legacy MaestroShield motors can use colored mechanical-limit adjusters or a separate receiver, so the same-looking screen may require a different manual.

Manual mode is the setup mode

Manual mode stops movement when the direction button is released and is used for controlled limit work. Continuous mode runs between stored limits during normal operation.

The limit sequence is time-sensitive

The Smart Motor guide requires the main upper/lower programming sequence to continue within about 10 seconds of program preparation or the motor can leave programming mode.

Before you begin

Identify the MaestroShield system before touching PROGRAM or RESET.

MaestroShield documentation spans Smart Motors, mechanical-limit Hybrid motors, wall receivers, and newer remote families. Preserve the working setup and choose one matching workflow.

Identify Smart Motor versus Hybrid/LED before pressing PROGRAM, RESET, or a direction button; their limit and pairing procedures are not interchangeable.

For Smart Motor steps, confirm the 3, 6, 8, 20, or 50 Nm family and matching handheld remote with a rear PROGRAM button.

For Hybrid steps, confirm the EL03-11HH06L-style six-channel remote, separate LIGHT button, built-in receiver, and motor-head mechanical limit adjusters.

Clear the tracks, housing, curtain path, bottom bar, furniture, and people from the screen's full travel area.

Select the intended channel before programming a multi-channel remote and isolate the target motor if another screen could respond.

Record the current direction, operating mode, upper/lower stops, intermediate stops, and working remotes before changing anything.

Identify Smart Motor Versus Legacy Controls

Use physical controls and model information to choose one manual before sending any programming or direction command.

Check for Smart Motor controls

Handheld remote + rear PROGRAM button + electronic limits

The Smart Motor instructions show a handheld remote with UP, STOP, DOWN, channel selection where applicable, and a PROGRAM button on the back. Limits are stored electronically from the remote.

A product name alone is not enough. Confirm the motor or remote model and the existing limit method before continuing.

Recognize a legacy mechanical-limit system

Motor-head limit adjusters or hex tool = different workflow

Older MaestroShield screen manuals describe upper and lower stops adjusted at the motor with a hex wrench and color-coded limit switches. Those controls are not Smart Motor electronic limits.

Do not press Smart Motor PROGRAM sequences while someone is working near mechanical limit access or energized wiring.

Recognize a wall-receiver or Hybrid/LED system

Separate receiver or LED-light controls = separate manual

Wall-mounted receivers and Hybrid/LED motors use receiver LEDs, beeps, RESET buttons, or different remote commands. Follow their exact manual instead of borrowing the Smart Motor sequence.

The references below include the wall-control document for identification, not as a second sequence to combine with Smart Motor steps.

Programming routine

Change Between Manual and Continuous Mode

Use manual mode for controlled setup and fine adjustment; return to continuous mode only after safe limits are verified.

Open the Smart Motor power-up setup

Power OFF -> hold UP 3 sec -> power ON while holding

Turn power off to the identified Smart Motor. Hold UP for about three seconds, keep holding UP while power is restored, and wait for the motor to jog.

Use only a safe, normal power disconnect. Do not access exposed wiring, and isolate the target motor if another screen could respond.

Enter manual mode

After power-up jog: release UP -> tap STOP

Release UP after the first jog, then tap STOP once. A second jog confirms manual mode, where movement stops when the UP or DOWN button is released.

Manual mode gives better control near an unset limit, but it does not prevent overtravel if the operator keeps holding a direction button.

Return to continuous mode after setup

Repeat power OFF -> hold UP -> power ON -> STOP

Repeat the same power-up mode-change routine after the limits are verified to return the motor to continuous operation between stored stops.

Supervise the first continuous cycle and stop if the screen passes a limit or approaches the housing incorrectly.

Programming routine

Confirm or Correct Smart Motor Direction

Correct direction before entering the time-sensitive upper and lower limit sequence.

Test direction away from both endpoints

UP should open | DOWN should close

Use a short manual-mode movement to verify that the remote direction matches the installed screen movement before programming limits.

The MaestroShield Smart Motor guide notes direction correction when the motor orientation requires it; do this before storing limits.

Send the Smart Motor direction command

Hold STOP until jog -> release -> press DOWN

With power on, hold STOP until the motor jogs, release STOP, then press DOWN. A confirming jog indicates the operating direction changed.

Use this only on the identified Smart Motor family. Do not use it to compensate for a rolled curtain, reversed field wiring, or existing mechanical-limit setup.

Retest direction immediately

Short UP test -> STOP | short DOWN test -> STOP

Confirm both commands now match screen movement and leave the screen in a safe position for limit setup.

If direction is still unclear, stop before entering the time-sensitive limit sequence.

Programming routine

Program the Primary Upper and Lower Limits

Complete this Smart Motor sequence in order, beginning limit programming within roughly 10 seconds of the power-up preparation jog.

Prepare the motor for first-time limit programming

Power OFF -> hold UP 3 sec -> power ON -> jog -> release UP

Turn motor power off, hold UP for about three seconds, and keep holding while power is restored. Release UP after the motor jogs. The motor is now ready for the primary limit sequence.

Begin the next step within about 10 seconds or repeat program preparation. This is for initial Smart Motor setup, not fine-tuning an existing limit.

Open upper-limit programming

UP x1 -> jog -> rear PROGRAM x1 -> jog

Press UP once and wait for a jog, then press the PROGRAM button on the back of the handheld remote and wait for a second jog.

If either confirmation is missing, stop and repeat identification and program preparation instead of skipping ahead.

Move to and store the upper limit

UP -> STOP at upper position -> adjust -> PROGRAM x1

Press UP to move toward the desired upper position. Press STOP at the safe endpoint, make small UP or DOWN corrections if needed, then press PROGRAM once. A jog confirms the upper limit.

Do not pull the curtain, slats, bottom bar, or fabric into the hood. Stay ready to stop throughout the unset-limit movement.

Move to the lower limit

DOWN -> STOP at desired lower position

Press DOWN to run toward the lower endpoint. At the intended position, press STOP, then use UP or DOWN for any small correction allowed by the documented setup mode.

Protect track engagement and bottom-bar clearance; programming cannot correct a binding or out-of-square screen.

Store and finish the lower limit

PROGRAM x1 -> jog -> PROGRAM x1 -> jog

Press PROGRAM once and wait for the jog, then press PROGRAM again and wait for the second jog. The two confirmations finish the primary upper/lower limit setup.

Test both limits in manual mode first, then return to continuous mode and supervise one complete cycle.

Programming routine

Fine-Tune an Existing Limit

Open and adjust only the endpoint that is wrong rather than deleting the entire programmed setup.

Enter manual mode and go to the limit

Manual mode -> run to upper or lower stored limit

Use the mode-change routine, then position the screen at the exact stored endpoint that needs adjustment.

Change one limit at a time and leave the other known stop untouched.

Open that limit for adjustment

Rear PROGRAM x1 -> jog

At the selected limit, press the rear PROGRAM button once and wait for the motor jog.

If the motor does not confirm with the expected jog, stop instead of sending more PROGRAM presses.

Fine-tune and save

Tap UP/DOWN -> PROGRAM x1 -> jog

Tap UP or DOWN until the endpoint is safe and accurate, then press PROGRAM once. A jog confirms the adjusted limit is stored.

Run a supervised cycle afterward and confirm the opposite limit was not disturbed.

Programming routine

Set or Delete Intermediate Limits

Add up to four middle stops only after the primary endpoints and normal screen travel are reliable.

Start from the upper limit

Screen at full upper limit

Confirm the main upper and lower limits work, then place the screen at the full upper stop before creating an intermediate position.

The Smart Motor supports up to four middle positions in addition to the main upper and lower limits.

Move to the desired middle position

Hold DOWN -> release at desired stop

Hold DOWN while the screen moves, then release the button at the intermediate position you want to store.

Only store a position where the screen is level, stable, and fully engaged in its intended travel path.

Store the intermediate limit

PROGRAM x1 -> jog -> PROGRAM x1 -> jog

Press PROGRAM twice, waiting for a jog after each press. The second confirmation stores the middle position.

Repeat from the appropriate prior position for additional intermediate stops, then test the order one stop at a time.

Delete one intermediate limit

At limit: hold PROGRAM through 2 jogs

Run to the intermediate limit being removed, then hold PROGRAM. Keep holding through the first jog and until the second jog roughly seven seconds later; the second confirmation deletes that middle stop.

Release after the documented second jog. Continuing to hold buttons during an uncertain state can trigger a different function.

Programming routine

Add or Delete a Handheld Remote Channel

Start an addition from a known working channel; use the separate power-up deletion routine only with the remote or channel intentionally being erased.

Open learning from the working remote

Working remote/channel: hold STOP until jog -> release

Select the working channel that controls only the intended motor. Hold STOP until the motor jogs, then release STOP.

If more than one motor jogs, let programming time out and isolate the target before continuing.

Add the destination remote or channel

New remote: select channel -> press UP -> jog

On the handheld being added, select the exact destination channel and press UP. A jog confirms that control was added.

Avoid an ALL channel unless group operation is intentional. Test the original and added controls separately.

Delete one remote or selected channel

Select channel -> power OFF -> hold UP 3 sec -> power ON -> release after jog -> PROGRAM x1

Using the remote or channel being erased, turn motor power off, hold UP for about three seconds, keep holding while power is restored, and release after the jog. Press the rear PROGRAM button once; the next jog confirms that channel was removed from the motor.

DESTRUCTIVE TO THAT CONTROL: confirm another intended remote still operates the motor before removing this channel.

Programming routine

Delete All Smart Motor Programming

Use either documented full-deletion method only when a complete setup rebuild is intentional and safe.

Choose a full deletion only for a complete rebuild

Smart Motor programming memory only

A full deletion removes the programmed setup rather than repairing a stalled, overheated, crooked, or mechanically damaged screen.

DESTRUCTIVE: photograph the motor label, remote, channel, limits, and every working control before proceeding.

Open the reset routine

Power OFF -> hold UP 3 sec -> power ON -> release after jog

Turn motor power off, hold UP for about three seconds, keep holding while power is restored, and release UP after the motor jogs.

DESTRUCTIVE SETUP: keep the screen path clear and be certain this is the target motor before continuing.

Hold PROGRAM through all confirmations

Hold PROGRAM about 7 sec through 3 total jogs

Press and hold the rear PROGRAM button. The motor jogs once after about one second; continue holding for roughly six more seconds until two additional jogs occur. The third jog confirms programming was deleted.

DESTRUCTIVE: release after the third confirmation. The motor now needs direction, limits, and intended controls rebuilt before normal operation.

Recover in a controlled order

Manual mode -> direction -> upper -> lower -> full test

After an intentional reset, use one intended control, verify direction, store the primary limits, test a full cycle, and only then add intermediate stops or additional remotes.

If any jog differs from the Smart Motor manual, stop and re-identify the system rather than mixing in a legacy procedure.

Hybrid Remote Programming Guide

Start a separate workflow for MaestroShield LED/Hybrid Series controls.

The steps below apply only to a Hybrid motor with a built-in receiver, mechanical limits, and the Forest Diamond-style EL03-11HH06L remote with channel indicators and a separate LIGHT button.

Professional service is recommended for Hybrid units.

To protect the motor, curtain, tracks, bottom bar, and hood, High Noon Shades recommends professional help before changing Hybrid programming or mechanical limits—especially when the existing channel, direction, or endpoint setup is uncertain.

Do not cross over from the Smart Motor sequence. Hybrid pairing is confirmed by beeps and its endpoints are mechanical; Smart Motor PROGRAM-button limit routines do not set Hybrid upper or lower stops.

Programming routine

Program a Hybrid Remote, Direction, or Channel

Use these beeping-based routines only after confirming the EL03-11HH06L-style remote and compatible built-in receiver.

Confirm the Hybrid remote and select the channel

EL03-11HH06L-style control -> select intended channel

Use this sequence only with the six-channel LED Light & Momentary remote and compatible Hybrid motor with a built-in receiver and mechanical limits. Select the intended channel before removing or restoring power.

If the remote lacks the separate LIGHT button or the motor uses electronic limits, stop and return to the system identification section.

Pair the first Hybrid remote channel

Hold UP until display stays lit -> keep holding -> power ON -> beeps -> release UP -> tap UP

Hold UP until the selected channel display stays constant, continue holding UP while power is connected to the motor, and wait about three to five seconds for beeping. While it is still beeping, release UP and tap UP once more. Three consecutive beeps confirm pairing.

Control power through a normal disconnect only. Do not handle exposed wiring, and keep every other motor that could learn the signal isolated.

Correct reversed Hybrid motor direction

Power connected -> hold STOP until beeping -> release STOP -> tap DOWN

With the identified Hybrid motor powered, hold STOP until beeping begins. While the motor is still beeping, release STOP and press and release DOWN. Three beeps confirm the operating direction changed.

This changes radio-control direction; it does not reverse the meaning of the mechanical-limit dials or repair a curtain rolled onto the tube incorrectly.

Add another Hybrid remote or channel

Working remote: hold STOP until beeping -> new remote: select channel -> press UP

On the working remote and channel, hold STOP until the motor begins beeping after roughly three to five seconds, then release. On the new remote, select the destination channel and press UP until the motor confirms the addition with beeps.

Test the original and new controls separately and confirm that only the intended screen responds.

Delete one Hybrid remote or selected channel

Select channel -> hold STOP until beeping -> hold rear RESET until 3 beeps

On the control being removed, select the exact channel, hold STOP until the motor beeps, then use a paperclip to hold the RESET button on the back of that remote until three beeps confirm deletion.

DESTRUCTIVE TO THAT CONTROL: verify another intended remote still operates the screen before deleting this channel. Do not continue holding RESET after the confirmation.

Restore momentary operation when needed

Hold STOP 5 sec -> press STOP again

If the screen no longer requires the DOWN button to be held during closing, the Hybrid manual says to hold STOP for about five seconds and then press STOP once more to reactivate momentary operation.

Test the restored behavior with the screen in view and the travel path clear.

Programming routine

Program and Operate Hybrid LED Controls

The optional LED receiver uses channel 1 and a separate LIGHT-button workflow. It does not change motor pairing or mechanical limits.

Prepare channel 1 and the LED receiver

LED receiver power OFF -> remote channel 1

Turn power to the separate LED receiver off and place the six-channel Hybrid remote on channel 1, shown by the first channel indicator light.

This section programs the LED-light receiver, not the Hybrid motor or its mechanical travel limits.

Pair the LED receiver

Receiver power ON -> within 5 sec tap STOP+LIGHT

Turn the LED receiver on and, within about five seconds, tap STOP and LIGHT together. After pairing, the LIGHT button turns the connected LED strips on and off.

If the motor moves instead, stop and confirm that the remote is in the intended light-control state and that the receiver matches the manual.

Enter dim/bright control

Hold LIGHT 5 sec -> channel 1 flashes twice

Hold LIGHT for about five seconds until the first channel indicator flashes twice. In this state, UP makes the LED lights brighter and DOWN makes them dimmer.

A channel number that remains lit while UP or DOWN is held is a clue that the remote is controlling light level rather than screen movement.

Return to motor control

Hold LIGHT 5 sec -> channel 1 flashes twice

Hold LIGHT again for about five seconds until the channel 1 indicator flashes twice. The remote then returns to motor-control operation.

Confirm the mode before pressing a direction button near either mechanical endpoint.

Hybrid thermal protection

Let an overheated motor cool instead of reprogramming it.

The Hybrid manual describes a thermal cutoff after roughly four minutes of motor operation, with job-site heat capable of shortening that runtime.

Allow at least 20 minutes—and sometimes up to 45 minutes—for the motor to cool. The motor can resume the last signal sent to the receiver when it recovers, so never leave a cooling motor energized and unattended.

Hybrid upper and lower limits are mechanical adjustments.

The matrix below is provided to identify the correct dial and understand the manual—not as a recommendation to adjust an energized screen without experience. The motor side, colored dial, curtain direction, and tube rotation must all be confirmed before a hex tool is turned.

An incorrect adjustment can overextend the curtain, pull slats or fabric out of the side rails, wind the curtain into the hood, or damage the motor and bottom bar. High Noon Shades recommends that an end user seek professional help to protect the product.

Hybrid mechanical-limit orientation matrix

Confirm the motor side while facing the screen and use the dial assigned to the endpoint being adjusted. The arrows on the motor describe tube rotation, which is opposite the direction of curtain travel.

1. Find the stored stop first

Run toward the endpoint and stop roughly 12 inches before it. The manual first moves the applicable limit inward in controlled increments until the motor will no longer continue toward that endpoint.

2. Adjust outward gradually

With the correct dial positively identified, the final stop is moved toward the desired position in small increments while the curtain, tracks, bottom bar, and hood remain under direct observation.

3. Stop before damage

Never use the hex adjuster to force past binding, compensate for poor alignment, or recover a curtain that has already left its intended rails or wrapped incorrectly.

When to stop

Do not mix Smart Motor, Hybrid, and newer MaestroShield procedures.

A working limit, control, mode, jog, or beep is useful diagnostic information. Preserve it until the motor family and mechanical condition are certain.

The motor, remote, receiver, or limit hardware does not match the MaestroShield Smart Motor handheld-control family.
A Hybrid/LED remote does not match the EL03-11HH06L-style control or the system lacks the documented built-in receiver and mechanical limits.
More than one screen jogs or moves during a programming command.
The curtain, slats, zipper edges, or bottom bar leave their intended track or approach the hood unevenly.
The motor stops after repeated operation, hums, strains, or may need a thermal cooldown rather than more programming.
You are considering full deletion without safe power control and a complete plan to restore direction, limits, and remotes.
You cannot positively identify the Hybrid motor side, upper/lower dial, or the effect of the planned hex adjustment.

MaestroShield product notes

The Smart Motor guide covers 3, 6, 8, 20, and 50 Nm motors, electronic limits, manual/continuous operation, and up to four optional middle stops.

MaestroShield handheld remotes were offered in single-, 6-, and 16-channel versions. Choose the intended channel before programming or deleting a control.

The Hybrid manual uses a six-channel remote with a separate LIGHT button, a built-in motor receiver, and mechanical upper/lower limit switches at the motor.

Hybrid mechanical limits require the correct colored dial, motor-side orientation, hex tool, and curtain-direction interpretation. High Noon Shades recommends professional adjustment.

Repeated Hybrid motor operation can trigger thermal protection. Let the motor cool for 20–45 minutes and inspect the screen rather than assuming its programming was lost.
